We use fire doors in many of our properties to help keep you safe.
Fire doors will help to prevent fire and smoke travelling through your property or building and are designed to hold a fire for 30 minutes.
Fire doors can help contain the fire to a specific area which allows you time to get out of the property and also makes the fire easier to tackle.
Here are some things to look out for on fire doors:
- Gaps – Check the gaps around the top and sides of the door are less than 4mm when the doors closed. Make sure gaps are not so big that smoke and fire could travel through the cracks.
- Seals – Check the seals around the door are intact and are not damaged. Look around the edges of the door and frame.
- Hinges – Check all hinges are firmly fixed with no missing or broken screws.
- Closing properly – Check the door closes firmly onto the latch without sticking on the floor or the frame. Open the door about halfway, let go and see what happens when you let it close by itself. A fire door only works when it’s closed properly.
