Fly-tipping means dumping waste illegally.
Solihull Council provides services to help you get rid of household waste. Many are free of charge but some you must pay for.
We offer a Bulky Waste Collection Service (pdf 320 kB). If you have an unwanted bulky item we may be able to remove this item for a small charge.
Every householder in the UK must make sure that they get rid of their waste in accordance with the law. That means you must take reasonable steps to make sure that anyone who takes your waste away is authorised to do so.
An authorised person is either a registered waste carrier or a site that holds a waste management licence. If you don’t check that your waste is collected by an authorized person you are committing a criminal offence. If you are convicted you could be fined up to £5,000.
If you arrange for any waste to be collected, other than through us or the Council, you should:
- ask the contractor if they are a registered waste carrier and ask them for their registration number
- phone the Environment Agency on 08708 506 506 to confirm that they are registered, or check online on the Environment Agency’s public registers page
- record details of the contractor, their name, address, phone number and the registration number of their vehicle.
If the contractor is not a registered waste carrier, report them to Environmental Health by calling 0121 704 8369, or emailing environmentalhealth@solihull.gov.uk
