What is Solihull Independent Living Service (SILS)?

Solihull Independent Living Services, or SILS, is the new name for a collection of services in Solihull helping people to stay safe and independent in their homes. SILS is funded by Solihull Council and provided by both Solihull Community Housing and the Council.

How does SILS help Solihull residents?

By offering tailored support and practical solutions, SILS helps residents, especially older adults and people with disabilities, to stay living at home for longer, maintaining their independence and quality of life.

Which services are provided as part of SILS?

Solihull Community Housing’s “Safe and Sound” telecare plans, home adaptations (including major adaptations and minor works), and “Home Hazard” checks are all part of SILS.

Some Solihull Council services are also included or work very closely with SILS, such as Technology Enabled Care and Housing Occupational Therapy.

Is SILS free to use?

Some services are free of charge, others are chargeable, which may depend on your eligibility or financial circumstances – each person is considered individually. This may include a financial assessment, depending on the services you may need.

Why has Solihull Council created this new service?

By bringing these services together, we can respond better to residents’ needs through a single means of contacting us. It also means we can provide a more cost-effective service.

When does the service start?

The new service will be available from Monday 12 January 2026.
