Private Renting

With a national shortage of affordable Council Housing, people are increasingly using the Private Rented Sector to secure accommodation. It provides a varied range of accommodation and in most cases will be a quicker way to find a home as there are no waiting lists. If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, Solihull Community Housing may be able to help with the first months rent and deposit.

You can find a private rented home by looking on the internet or by visiting local letting agents. We have a guide to finding private rented accommodation here (pdf 603 kB).

Please see below some useful links that may help you to find a home to rent. Please do not hand over any monies to the landlord or Agent prior to viewing the property:

Rightmove – http://www.rightmove.co.uk

Zoopla – http://www.zoopla.co.uk

Gumtree – http://www.gumtree.com

Open Rent – http://www.openrent.co.uk

Spare Room – http://www.spareroom.co.uk

When renting a home in the Private Sector it is useful to know what your rights and responsibilities are and also what’s expected of your landlord. You can find out more information and advice about being a private tenant on the http://www.gov.uk/private-renting and http://www.shelter.org.uk

If you need any more help, call us on 0121 717 1515 and select Option 2.
