Step 1- Triage

You will be assessed by Housing Options Advisor who will discuss your housing circumstances and give you advice and guidance and depending on your circumstances be booked in with Housing Options Officer within 5 days of your initial approach.

Step 2- Assessment

Once you have completed your housing options assessment you will be given advice and guidance tailored towards your situation.

Step 3- Investigations

Before we accept a duty to you or your household we will need to confirm that you are Eligible and Threatened/Homeless and this will require some investigations to be completed with you

Step 4- Accepted duty

Your Housing Options Officer will decide whether you are eligible & homeless they will tailor a Personal Housing Plan and give you advice to help you with your housing circumstances. A decision will be made at the end of this period to decide if the council owes you a duty.

Step 5-  Final Decision

If we have accepted that we owe you a duty to relieve your homelessness and have not been successful in securing you alternative accommodation then we will complete investigations into what final decision is owed to you. We will be required to investigate whether you meet the homeless tests:

If you meet the threshold for the list you will be owed a ‘main duty’ this means that the council owes you a duty to be rehoused via social housing or a tenancy in the private rented sector.  If we do not owe a duty to you we will be required to end our duty to you.
