In some cases of antisocial behaviour court action may be the only way to resolve the matter. If members of the public are prepared to come forward as witnesses and give evidence in court a case has the highest chance of success.
We understand that attending court can be daunting and some may be put off attending court for a number of reasons, including travel expenses, loss of income, meeting the alleged perpetrator or fear.
We support witnesses through a case in the following ways:
- We can arrange for witnesses to visit the court before the court date, so they know what to expect on the day.
- We will make sure that a separate waiting room is available at court to minimise the chance of witnesses meeting the accused. (In some courts this may not be possible so an alternative waiting place will be arranged).
- An officer will stay with the witnesses whilst they are at court to provide reassurance and explain how the case is progressing.
- We will also arrange for the payment of lost wages, travel expenses, taxis and provide interpreters or other support, where appropriate.
