We can help with hoarding habits

Hoarding is when a person finds it very hard to get rid of belongings, regardless of their value.

This behaviour can be recognised by people having piles of stuff in their home that keeps growing and causes trouble to move around, sit or carry out daily tasks.

Hoarders might collect items such as newspapers, plastic bags, bottles, cardboard boxes, photographs, household appliances or food and clothing.

Hoarding can also be related to obsessive buying or the gaining of free items.

A hoarder can find it very difficult to throw away belongings and they may show signs of anxiety or distress when they try to do this or get organised.

We recognise that some of our residents may collect or hoard items which they do not want to part with.

We understand that hoarding is a complex matter, with some cases being quite serious. We will support and assist any of our residents who may find themselves in this situation.

Our Neighbourhood Officers are trained to assess the situation and offer the help and support required to make positive decisions and help you become a little less cluttered.

We will work with you to address your support needs, your hoarding behaviour, and to help you remove items in and around your home which are causing a concern.
