Universal Credit is a new type of benefit. In Solihull it currently affects single, newly unemployed people. It brings together the following benefits:
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Housing Benefit
A company called Policy in Practice have created a Universal Benefit Calculator. It is suitable for most people permanently living in the UK. It is not meant for full-time students or people in hospital, residential care, or prison. Calculations should be treated as a helpful estimate, as it will only be as accurate as the information entered. The calculator is owned and operated by Policy in Practice.
Universal Credit is expected to be introduced to all people of a working age by 2019. If you are currently receiving the state pension then you will not be affected by Universal Credit at this time. If this changes in the future we will let you know.
