Right to Move
The Government have introduced a Right to Move for social tenants who need to move to take up a job or live closer to employment or training. The local authority needs to be satisfied that you need to move to a particular locality in Solihull, where failure to meet that need would cause hardship (to you or others). Solihull Council must be satisfied that you need, rather than wish, to move for work related reasons. If you would like to know more about ‘Right To Move’ please contact Solihull Home Options on 0121 717 1515.
Renting through a housing association
Housing associations also known as registered social landlords or RSLs. They provide affordable housing for rent and run initiatives to help people own their own home. They work on a ‘not-for-profit’ basis and are supported financially by the government. There are a number of housing associations in Solihull and some offer specialist accommodation to people with particular support needs.
Shared ownership is an alternative to both renting and owning your own home outright. It enables people who cannot afford the whole cost of a property to step onto the property ladder.

Movement incentive scheme
This scheme offers cash incentives to tenants with spare bedrooms to encourage them to move to smaller properties that are a more manageable size for them. This makes larger homes available to families in need. As well as cash, we can offer people help to move home as well, as part of the range of incentives.
To be eligible, you must be willing to move into a specific type of property. To find out more please contact us for more information. You can also contact our money advice team if you need advice on how changes to benefits may affect you.
