Home Hazard Checks

We offer a free home visit to check for hazards and provide low level equipment to make sure your home is safe and to reduce the risk of falls.

We can also provide low level pieces of equipment to reduce the risk of falls and make referrals to other community services which may be able to provide further specialist support. This includes referrals to services such as Community Advice Hubs, Adult Social Care, Solihull Falls Clinic and BID Sensory Services.

A trained Wellbeing Officer will visit you in your home to identify potential hazards. They will then order any equipment you may need such as perching stools, toilet frames, bed levers and chair raisers.

After the free assessment you will receive recommendations on how to improve safety in your home. We will arrange for adaptive equipment to be installed which will help you to be safe and well at home.

Examples of the improvements we can offer include:

  • – Provision of free of charge, low level equipment for all areas of the home. A list of the equipment we can provide can be found on the Home Hazard Checks – Criteria & Equipment page
  • – Fitting a low-cost personal alarm system, so that you or your relative can signal for help in the event of a fall. This is something the officer can discuss further with you during your appointment if you would like more information
  • – Fitting internal and external grab rails, bannister rails and newel posts to provide easier front, rear and upstairs access
  • – Small Handyperson jobs such as refitting loose carpets or easing sticking door

To receive this free service, you must:

  • – Be a Solihull resident
  • – Have a risk of falls and/or have a previous history of falls
  • – Be over 18 years old
