From 2025 there will be huge changes to the way we communicate in the UK using the traditional home phone telephones.

As the world moves into the digital era, the telephone infrastructure as we know it must change with it.

For many years we have relied upon the copper cables deep underground or strung above our heads in the streets. But by 2025 this will be no more.

Currently all analogue phone lines run by the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), will be switching over to a fully digital network that takes calls across Internet Protocols (IP) by 2025.

What does this mean for my pendant alarm or other pieces of telecare?

By using digital units for all our pendant alarms and other pieces of telecare it allows us to broaden the capabilities of our equipment and makes sure our equipment is future proof!

All units also have a Global Roaming SIM embedded in the unit meaning there is no need for the working land line.

The new digital units connect by SIM card and provide quicker connections, less interference, better connectivity and the ability to programme more remotely. The installation is also much easier as they can simply be plugged into an electric point, tested and they are ready to go!

The Wellbeing Team adopted the approach of beginning to install these types of units for all new customers from April 2021.

If you are currently one of our existing customers, your analogue units will still continue to work over the next few years, however we will be working towards fazing these out with all units to be swapped over by 2025.

If you are currently still using one of our analogue units but would like to know more about the switchover or get more information about getting a digital IP unit, please get in touch with us.
