You can apply to us as a homeless person if you have nowhere to stay or are likely to lose your
home in the next 28 days.
Every local authority should deal with homeless people in the same way. The rules are set out in
the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by The Homelessness Act 2002).
If you apply to us as homeless, a housing advisor will interview you to find out your housing
situation and other circumstances. At the interview we will need to see documents relevant to your
application, for example, proof of what benefits you receive and proof of identity.
After checking your application the advisor will decide whether or not Solihull Council has a
duty to provide you with accommodation. While we are checking your application, we may offer you
temporary accommodation if you are in urgent need.

If we accept your application as a homeless person, you will join the housing register. We then
offer you permanent suitable accommodation as soon as possible.
If we don't accept your application as a homeless person, we will offer you advice and help to
find accommodation. You could consider the following options:
