Solihull Community Housing is warning people that they could face a £75 Fixed Penalty Notice if
they graffiti, drop litter or fail to clean up after their dogs; following new powers that have
been given to them.
The powers have been extended from the Council's Environmental Health team to some SCH
Anti-Social Behaviour Officers, in an attempt to crack down on environmental crimes in the
borough.
Many areas in which the ASB Officers work are hotspots for litter, graffiti and places where
people do not clean up after their dogs. By extending these powers it is hoped that more residents
will be aware that penalties can and will be issued.
The ASB Officers have received special training for the new role, along with new high visibility
uniforms.
Anyone issued with a £75 Fixed Penalty Notice must pay within fourteen days. The amount is
reduced to £50 if payment is received within seven days. Those that do not pay the Fixed Penalty
Notice will be summoned to appear in court.
Mandy Mason, SCH's Antisocial Behaviour Officer said: "It is important that people know it is
unacceptable to graffiti, litter or fail to clear up after their dog. Areas can easily look
uncared for where this occurs a lot and it may become a hotspot of other anti-social behaviour.
"These powers will allow us to identify those people who have no regard for their neighbours and
their local community."
